Birkenhead councillors to decide on new market plan

The plans are for a market in a former Marks & Spencer in the Pyramids Shopping Centre in Birkenhead. Market trader Alan Featherstone has put forward plans and applied for a licence for a market in the former Marks & Spencer unit in Birkenhead rather than the complex planned by Wirral Council for the former Argos site.Earlier this year, Marks and Spencer said it was happy to let a new Birkenhead Market be run from the premises subject to terms and conditions being agreed.He was supported by Birkenhead’s three Green councillors Pat Cleary, Amanda Onwuemene, and Ewan Tomeny.He argued granting a market licence could jeopardise the authority’s regeneration plans as well as future plans to relocate Birkenhead Market into Argos.

Birkenhead (/ˌbɜːrkənˈhɛd/) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; It was part of Cheshire until 1974. The town is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the west bank of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 88,818. Single complaint sees town hall clock chimes cut - Liverpool Echo

The chimes from Birkenhead Town Hall have been ringing since the building opened in 1887 Wirral Council has cut the number of times a town hall clock tower chimes from four times an hour to once an hour following a complaint about the level of noise. Birkenhead Town Hall on Hamilton Square officially opened in 1887.Following reports the clocktower's chimes had been reduced, a Wirral Council spokesperson said: "A complaint was made by a resident near Birkenhead Town Hall regarding the frequency and volume of the chimes from the building’s clock tower, which sounded on the quarter hour.The historic Grade II* listed building was previously the base of the County Borough of Birkenhead and following the formation of Wirral Council in 1974, it has continued to be used by the local authority.

Wirral Council has changed how often a clocktower rings due to a noise complaint. The bells of Birkenhead Town Hall now toll on the hour, rather than every 15 minutes, because a man who lives nearby complained they rang too loud and too often.The clocktower above Birkenhead Town Hall close to Hamilton Square reaches 60m in height (200ft).The Birkenhead resident said it was a "great shame" the bells would not be heard as often.

Birkenhead to New York City - Birkenhead Park

Birkenhead Park’s Manager, and one of our Forest School Practitioner were cordially invited to be part of a ceremony honouring Doug Blonsky in New York City on May 2nd 2018. The 36th annual Frederick Law Olmsted Gala paid tribute to Doug Blonsky who gave 33 years with the group that rescued the park from decades of neglect. Doug has also visited Birkenhead Park on several occasions, recognising that without Birkenhead Park, there would be no New York Park.
